abdomen, chest, shoulders, arms, hands and head. The following are the
suggested appropriate body postures when singing:
                  (i) The head should remain straight, with the chin parallel to the floor. This
will ensure free air flow when breathing.
(ii) Shoulders and hands should be relaxed to allow proper breathing.
(iii) The chest should be held high, but not in a strained position to allow the
lungs to expand enough to increase the airflow.
(iv) Knees should be flexible and loose and never locked while the feet
should be slightly apart. This helps to create body balance and relaxation.
Figure 6.12 shows correct body posture when singing.

              (b) Correct breathing: This technique includes how singers control and manage
their breath during singing. Singers should breathe normally by allowing the
lungs to easily expand when breathing in and contract when breathing out.
Breath control enables the singer to accumulate enough air to finish the song
phrases at the right time with the right sound. When singing, singers can
control breath by avoiding to raise their shoulders.
              (c) Correct diction: Diction refers to pronunciation of words in a song. Correct
diction in singing ensures that each word is clearly heard and the audience
gets the meaning of the song. Singers must pronounce the words of a song
clearly for the audience to understand the message carried in the song.
