(c) Range exercises: These are exercises which increase the ability of a singer
to sing lower or higher notes. They help to slowly increase a singer’s vocal
range and pitch accuracy. They include exercises such as singing ascending
and descending scales.
Activity 6.7
Practise the following exercise to extend your vocal range:
Sing the following scale on vowels a, e, i, o and u. Begin from your comfortable
lowest pitch and slowly change to higher pitches. Use a piano or any melodic
instrument to determine a starting pitch.
(d) Articulation exercises: These exercises are designed to improve vocal clarity
and diction in singing. They focus on vowel sounds, consonants and general
articulation. They help singers in pronouncing words correctly. They include
exercises such as tongue-twisters, which involve repeating challenging
phrases to improve articulation and clarity.
