                  udder to check if it is fully emptied. Then, strip
                  out the last milk by running your fingers down

              Machine milking procedure
              Machine milking is common in larger farms as it saves time and reduces labour
              requirements. It uses a machine to extract milk from the cow. The udder must
              be prepared the same way as in hand milking to ensure hygiene and proper milk
              let-down. The milking process should follow these steps for safety and hygiene:

              (a) Clean all machine parts thoroughly before use.

              (b) Gently attach the teat cups to each teat once the cow is ready.
              (c) Allow the machine to extract milk fully, taking care not to over-milk the
                  udder.

              (d) When the milk flow stops, remove the cups slowly and carefully.

              (e) Immediately after use, wash all parts of the machine with clean water and
                  disinfectant/ antiseptic solution.
              Figure 9.11 shows a movable cow milking machine used in some dairy farms.
