            The concept of poultry
Poultry is a general term for domesticated birds. It includes several species such as
chickens or domestic fowls, ducks, turkeys, geese, guinea fowls, pea fowls, pigeons,
partridges, ostrich, pheasants, quails, parrots and other game birds. Poultry farming
is an enterprise that deals with keeping birds either for home consumption or for
commercial purpose of either eggs or meat production. Some poultry species can
also be kept for ornamental or game/sport purposes such as pea fowls, parrots and
partridges. The poultry species shown in Figures 9.1 (a) to (l) can be kept for home
            use or entrepreneurial purposes.
