            Preventive measures

            Regularly clean and disinfect rabbit cages, pens, and equipment to prevent the
            spread of diseases. Remove soiled bedding, and wash feeding and watering
            containers daily. Dispose of waste properly to avoid contamination.  Before
            introducing new rabbits to the existing herd, quarantine them for at least 2-4 weeks.

            Speak with a veterinarian to determine the appropriate vaccination schedule and
            vaccines for rabbits. Control fleas, mites, and other external parasites by keeping
            the environment clean and using appropriate treatments.  Regularly check for
            signs of internal parasites and consult a veterinarian for deworming if necessary.

            Symptoms of illness
            Some in illness symptoms in rabbits include  coughing,  sneezing, nasal/eye
            discharge, diarrhoea, bloating, or changes in faecal pellets. Itching, hair loss, or
            sores. Others are abnormal discharge, difficulty in kindling, and exhibiting poor
            mothering behaviour.

            Treatment and management
            If rabbits show signs of illness, consult a veterinarian for proper diagnosis and
            treatment. Avoid using medications without professional guidance. If a rabbit is
            ill, isolate it from healthy rabbits to prevent the spread of disease. Ensure sick
            rabbits have a clean, comfortable  space and closely monitor their hydration
            and nutrition. Table 8.3 shows some common rabbit diseases and their control
            measures.
