Kit a baby rabbit, usually referred to as a kit until
it is weaned.
Lactation the period during which a female animal e.g.
a sow produces milk to feed her piglets. This

usually lasts until the piglets are weaned.
Litter of pigs a group of piglets born to a sow at one time.
The size of a litter can vary but typically
ranges from 8-12 piglets. Modern prolific pig
breeds can produce many piglets up to above
20 piglets per sow per farrow.
Litter of rabbit the group of baby rabbits born to a doe at one
time.
Market weight the ideal weight at which an animal is
considered ready for slaughter, usually
between 90-100 kg in pigs. Reaching
market weight efficiently is a key goal in pig
production.
Mating ratio the ratio of male to female animals during
breeding. This is important to ensure that
all female animals are bred within a specific
timeframe.
Meat breeds animal breeds that are specifically raised for
their meat production.
Molting the process by which rabbits shed their fur,
usually occurring seasonally.
Monoculture the agricultural practice of growing a single
species of crop over a large area for many
successive growing seasons.
Nest box a box provided to the doe where she can give
birth and care for her kits.
Offspring the young of an animal.
Parasites organisms like mites, fleas, or worms that can
