the three steps of this activity:
(a) Reading the given words aloud. This activity is intended to
enable the students to recognise the syllable divisions in a
word. To teach this activity, you may begin by asking them to
read individually or in pairs the words provided in the Student’s
Book while paying attention to the divisions of syllables in
brackets. Instruct the students to use the ‘Did you know?’
section to clarify the concept of syllables.
(b) Reading the paragraph aloud and completing the given
activities. This activity provides the students with the
opportunity to practise the recognition of syllable divisions in
the italicised words in the provided paragraph in the Student’s
Book. Ask the students to read the paragraph individually, in
pairs and/or in small groups. Then, instruct them to read the
italicised words in the paragraph while paying attention to the
syllables in the word. Finally, ask them to complete the task
provided after the paragraph.
(c) Using the given steps to play the Syllable Race game. This
game intends to provide the students with the opportunity to
recognise syllable divisions. Follow the steps in the Student’s
Book to instruct them to play the game. Announce the winner
at the end of the game.
