(d) Sharing personal experience of any event in life. This is also
a speaking activity that requires the students to share their
personal experiences on any event in life. The intention is to
practice appropriate usage of intonation. Conduct a plenary
discussion where each student will be required to describe his
or her experience in class. Make sure every student shares his
or her experience with appropriate intonation. Encourage the
students to describe at length with more details.
Activity 1.5 Participating in discussions on various topical
issues
Use the activities in the Student’s Book to guide the students through:
(a) Studying the given statements and saying what the speaker
assumes the hearer knows. This activity intends to introduce
the students to the concept of presupposition. Instruct the
students to do this activity in small groups or pairs. Lead a
plenary discussion after the group’s presentation. Use the ‘Did
you know’ section and other resources to acquaint yourself
with the concept of presupposition and how to teach it. The
following are suggested speaker’s presupposition for each of
the provided sentences in the Student’s Book is as follows.
1. The hearer has grandparents and has plans to visit them.
2. The hearer has made a decision and has parents who
would be informed about it.
