          5.1 The concept of food toxicants

          Teaching and learning steps

             1.  Use think-ink-pair-share or any other teaching techniques
                 to guide students in brainstorming on the concept of food
                 toxicants.
             2.  Guide students in manageable groups to search from the
                 internet or from various sources of information on toxicants
                 found in food.

          5.2 Types of food toxicants

          Teaching steps

             1.  Use gallery walk or any other methodology to guide students
                 to explore natural and chemical toxicants found in foods.
                 Make clarifications where necessary.

             2.  In manageable groups, guide students to view video or
                 images showing foods with natural and chemical toxicants.
                 Make clarifications where necessary.

             3.  Use jig saw or any other technique to guide students to
                 describe types of natural toxicants found in food including
                 toxicants of natural origin from plants and from microbes.

             4.  Use questions and answers or any other techniques to enable
                 students to explore examples of foods with toxicants and the
                 effects upon the consumption of toxicants in foods. Clear
                 any misconception.
