DID YOU ?
KNOW
When people talk about books, poems and stories, they often have different ideas
about what makes them good or bad. These ideas are called “theories of literature.”
Imagine you are trying to figure out why a story makes you feel happy or sad, or
why a poem makes you think about life differently. Theories of literature are like
tools that help us understand and talk about these things. They are like different
pairs of glasses we can put on to see stories in new ways. Some theories focus on
the author and their life, others on the words themselves, and still, others on the
reader’s experience. By using these theories, we can critique, or carefully analyse,
literary works to better understand them and appreciate their meanings.
