(b) Collect five English newspaper articles from Tanzanian newspapers and compare
how successfully the following components have been written.
1. Writing the article headline: an article headline is a brief, noticeable
statement about the content of the article.
2. Writing the article by-line: an article by-line is the author’s name. It tells

the reader who wrote the story.
3. Writing the article lead: An article lead is also called a ‘lead paragraph’.
It contains the who, what, when, where, why, and how of the story. The
author needs to find answers to these questions and write to them, in the
opening sentence of the article. The lead is usually the first paragraph and
is written to provide a preview of the entire story. It summarises the basic
facts in the story. The lead will help readers decide if they want to read the
rest of the story, or if they are satisfied knowing just these details.
4. Writing a newspaper storyline: Once the writer has set the stage with a good
lead, then follows a well-written story that includes facts from their research
and quotes from people they interviewed. The article should not have the
writer’s opinion. The newspaper storyline details events in chronological
order and uses clear, short, direct sentences in the active voice.

how successfully you have delivered the intended message

KNOW
Writers have the opportunity to create content for a variety of publications, such
as newspapers or magazines. Each publication has its distinctive style and form
of writing. Learning how to write articles for the media, whether newspapers or
magazines, can help you succeed in this niche and make you a more competitive
candidate for available roles. It can teach you how to work with editors and improve
your writing and collaborative skills.
An article for the media, whether or newspaper, or magazine discusses the current
recent news of common interest (i.e., daily newspaper) or a specific topic (i.e.,
political or business news magazines, club newspapers, or technology news
websites). You may write a newspaper article about a concert, sports event,
inauguration of a building, or music festival. A news article may include eyewitness
accounts of the incident.
