                  Four                   Oral Messages

              Introduction
           The ability to comprehend a language, differentiate multiple layers of meaning,
           and accurately convey thoughts and ideas orally is vital in today’s interconnected
           and diverse society. In this chapter, you will learn how to distinguish different types
           of meanings derived from different registers in spoken and written texts. You will
           also describe rhetorical and implied meanings derived from conversations. The
           competencies developed will enable you to interact more deeply with the world
           around you and communicate  more clearly  in various social, academic and
           professional settings. These will also help you advance as a proficient interpreter
           and communicator.







                       Think about



                    1.  how you normally  respond to oral messages, especially  when you
                       encounter unfamiliar vocabulary or accents.
                    2.  the techniques you use in communication situations where you require
                       clarification or repetition of oral messages.
                    3.  expressions or strategies you use to ensure understanding  in
                       conversation while maintaining self-confidence.
