Exercise 5.3
Taking a role of a district cultural official, describe the importance of
professional recognition and respect of theatre artists.
Safe working conditions
Theatre artists are entitled to a safe and healthy working environment, including
adequate safety measures that should be practised during rehearsals, performances
and backstage activities. The environment in which theatre artists perform or
conduct rehearsals should be clean, safe and away from any hazards or dangers
that might cause harm to them.
Activity 5.4
Visit a nearby theatre group, observe safety of theatre artists during rehearsals.
Write down your observations. Make a presentation to your class and provide
advice of what should be done to ensure safe working conditions to theatre
artists.
Credit and attribution
Theatre artists have the right to receive proper credit and acknowledgment for
their contributions in theatre productions, including billing, program credits and
promotional materials. When theatre artists are given credit, they add value to
themselves and to the community members surrounding them. This situation
enables the community to value theatre arts as a profession or significant
discipline.
Activity 5.5
Conduct a tour on various places where works of art are sold. Ask them what
they benefit from the works of art.
