Advantages of spoken (verbal) language
(a) It involves spoken words. For performers to effectively relay the message
to the audience, words are important.
(b) Spoken language allows immediate feedback. It is possible to get instant
feedback from the audience present during theatre performance.
(c) It is suitable for conveying complex ideas. Verbal communication is a great
way of portraying complex issues not only because it allows immediate
feedback, but also it encourages engagement and discussion.
(d) It is interactive. Spoken language involves characters in real life contexts
and it is interactive in nature. In theatre performances, there are several
elements such as storytelling and heroic recitation that encourage
interactivity. These forms of theatre through their presentation, engage
both the narrator and audience. As the narrator tells a story, the audience
provides feedback on immediate basis.
Visual (non-verbal) language
This type of communication uses the body, visual images, objects or artifacts and
symbols to convey messages to intended audiences. The following are the forms
of visual language that can occur through the use of the parts of a human body.
