Facial expressions
This is when the face is used to send the message to the intended audience. Facial
expressions are one of the most important aspects of human communication.
The face is responsible for communicating not only thoughts or ideas, but also
emotions. Facial expressions are crucial indicators for emotions and attitudes.
They are capable of expressing happiness, sadness, surprise, anger or other
feelings. Theatre artists have to be careful when using face to send message to
the audience. If artists apply facial expressions wrongly, they may mislead the
audience. Figure 6.5 shows different facial expressions communicating different
emotions.
