                (f)  Politics and language: Politics is one of the aspects of culture. Artists
                    should be  sensitive  of their  country’s politics.  They  should use the
                    language in a way that promotes peace of the community. This means that
                    the language should construct the community instead of destructing. The
                    use of language must be politically sensitive. Artists should be careful as

                    they choose the words, symbols and artifacts that will be applied in their
                    performances. They should not choose symbols and images that stand
                    for a particular party, unless they are hired by the party to perform for
                    them. The language, symbols, props and costumes have to be as neutral
                    as possible. Figure 6.2 shows the difference between colours that attract
                    multiple and neutral interpretations.

                     Activity 6.3

               Choose any play and divide yourselves into characters found in the play and
               read it aloud from beginning to the end. As you read, explore how creatively
               the language has been used to convey cultural values of the community.





               Exercise 6.2

               Review the photographs of the artifacts in the table below. Write a theme
               related to each artifact.
