Directions: These are directions that indicate physical actions or gestures to be
performed by the character while delivering their lines. For example, smiling,
raising an eyebrow, nodding and alike. The word quickly indicates a physical
direction.

Juma
(quickly)
I saw a massive group of people coming towards the king’s palace.
Line delivery: This goes hand-in-hand with an emotional direction. Line delivery
is used by scriptwriters to explicitly convey how they want a line to be read. For
example, sarcasm can be difficult to communicate on the page. The following is
an example of a line delivery.
Jeremiah looks at Joel with a mixture of happiness and joy
Jeremiah
(Excitedly, with expectation)
I cannot believe this, we won!
Pacing and Beats: The scriptwriter uses parenthetical to dictate line delivery.
It is all about the directions that indicate the speed and pace that should be
used to utter the words. Apart from pacing, beat can be useful for dramatizing
character moments. That brief pause can indicate everything from a character
absorbing shocking news to quickly changing the subject. An example of pacing
parenthetical is “quickly” which indicates that the character should deliver the
lines at a fast pace.
Zulfa
(Quickly),
We do not have much time we need to hurry.
