Area of a square
The area of a square is the entire surface region of the square.
The area of a square is obtained by multiplying the length by the
width of the square. Recall that all sides of a square have equal
length.
Thus, Area of a square = length × width or length × length.
Example 1
Find the area of the following square.
9 cm
9 cm
Solution
Length of a side = 9 cm
Area of the square = 9 cm × 9 cm
2
= 81 cm .

Therefore, the area of the square is 81 cm .
