Figure 6.5 (d): Common pea plant affected by mosaic virus disease
Activity 6.8
1. Visit a common pea field and carefully observe the plants for symptoms or
signs of pest or disease attack.
2. Describe your observations and try to identify possible causes based on what
you have learnt.
3. Suggest suitable control method(s) for the observed pests and diseases.
4. Record all your observations, activities, and lessons learnt in your portfolio.
Exercise 6.5
1. Your school garden has peas with shrivelled pods and dark marks on the
seeds inside. What pest might be causing this, and how would you manage it
to reduce damage now or later in the coming seasons?
2. In a nearby pea plot, you observe that most plants are wilting and dying, and
the soil is always wet. What disease could be responsible, and what steps can
be taken to control it or avoid it in the next season?
3. Some pea plants in the field have light and dark patches on their leaves. The
leaves also look twisted and do not grow to their normal size. What disease
could this be, and how can it be managed?
4. In your common pea plot, weeds keep growing back even after hoeing, and
they are affecting plant growth. Suggest what could be done differently to
reduce this problem.
