Crop farming activities to be performed depend on the type of crop(s) to be grown
and the production system chosen. Important crop farming activities involve the
following:
(a) Securing resources and necessary financial support.
(b) Preparing land (clearing, ploughing or tilling) and making it ready for sowing
or planting.
(c) Sowing or planting crops by following recommended spacing and sowing or
planting depth.
(d) Applying water by irrigating when necessary to ensure healthy crop growth.
(e) Applying fertilisers or manure as required for soil improvement.
(f) Managing weeds by using appropriate methods to minimise or eliminate
competition between crop plants and weeds for nutrients and other resources.
(g) Managing crop pests and diseases by regularly monitoring and taking
appropriate measures, including preventive ones.
(h) Harvesting the produce at the right maturity stage for best quality.
(i) Conducting postharvest management.
