1. Develop one cereal and one pulse crop production plan and set goals, targets,
cropping calendar with budget targets. When performing this task, visit people
who are involved in the value chain of the selected crop for consultation to be
able to answer the following questions.
(a) What do I want to achieve from farming?
(b) How much money do I want to earn each season?
(c) How will I spend the money?
2. Design and fill out a form for your own goals. Explain why you chose those
goals.
Exercise 1.3
1. Your friend who has not studied Agriculture wants to start growing cereal and
pulse crops, but does not know which crops to choose. What advice would
you give based on the factors discussed in this chapter?
2. You have learnt from meteorological data that an extended drought spell is
predicted for your area in the next cropping season. What factors will you
consider in your production plan to reduce the impact on your crops?
3. Explain strategies you will use to prevent pest attacks using sustainable and
cost-effective methods, before starting your crop production.
4. You learn that market prices for cereal and pulse crops are unpredictable
in your area. How would you design your marketing strategy to ensure a
profitable enterprise?
Write a summary of what you have learnt from this chapter in your
