Crossbreeds are the result of mating between local and exotic cattle breeds.
Crossbreeding aims to combine the strengths of local breeds with the higher
growth rate and beef production potential of exotic breeds. They offer a balance
of good meat quality and adaptability to local conditions and are well-suited
for semi-intensive systems. They have better meat production ability than local
breeds and are while more adaptable than pure exotic breeds.

Each breed has its place in beef production, depending on the system of farming,
available resources, and desired output. One must choose the pure breed or
crossbreed that best fits their environment and management capabilities.

               Activity 10.1

Visit one or more local beef farmers/a market in your area, or use relevant videos/
documentaries on beef cattle farming, to find out the breeds of beef cattle kept and
production systems used. Then, write a short report (half to one page), including
              the lessons learnt.
