Activity 10.2
1. Your parents/guardians want to start a medium-scale beef enterprise. Assist

them in designing a financial plan for their project. Use the following
guideline:
(a) Set the project goal(s) and scope;
(b) Decide on a system to be used;
(c) Itemise all required inputs and their associated costs;
(d) Compute variable and fixed costs;
(e) Summarise the total costs by adding up fixed and variable costs;
(f) Estimate expected returns;
(g) Calculate the revenue of the enterprise; then,
(h) Summarise your responses and include the lessons learnt in your portfolio.
Exercise 10.1
1. What are the most important things to consider before starting a beef cattle
enterprise/project? Justify why each one is important for the success of the
enterprise/project.
2. (a) What problems can arise if a beef enterprise is started without proper
planning?
(b) How can good planning help prevent these problems?
3. Distinguish between fixed and variable costs in a beef enterprise. Give two
examples of each and explain why they matter when managing the farm.
4. Defend the statement that “physical features help you to identify a good beef
cattle breed” Describe how these features support good beef production.
5. Describe the type of beef cattle production system most common in your
community. Give reasons why you think that system is commonly used.
