Control measures of internal parasites in livestock
Control measures of internal parasites in livestock require a range of practices which
involve biological, cultural and chemical methods. The methods involved in control
of parasites include:
(a) Regular deworming
(b) Proper sanitation in livestock houses
(c) Eradication of intermediate hosts
(d) Draining or spraying swampy areas with appropriate chemicals like copper
sulphate to kill vectors
(e) Ploughing pasture land to kill eggs
(f) Practicing rotational grazing to break life cycle of the vectors
(g) Use of latrines to avoid contact with human excreta so as to control intestinal
worms such as tapeworm and round worm
