            Mammalian male reproductive system

The male reproductive system is comprised of scrotum, testes, epididymis, vas
deferens, urethra, retractor muscle, penis and prepuce. These parts are shown in
            Figure 7.1.

Figure 7.1: Reproductive system of male cattle (bull)
Scrotum: This is a distended skin forming a sac which suspends the testicles outside
the body cavity providing an ideal temperature for maintenance and storage of
            sperms.
Testes/testicles: These are the two glandular organs enclosed in the scrotum. They
produce spermatozoa (male gametes) and also secrete male sex hormone.

Epididymis: This is a coiled thread like tubular structure uniting testes and the vas
deferens. It serves as a temporary semen store and helps in the process of sperm
            maturation.
Vas deferens: These are two ducts also called sperm ducts which are a continuation
of epididymis. They transport mature sperm cells from epididymis to the urethra.

Urethra: This is a duct which runs lengthwise extended from vas deferens to the
penis. It leads the passage of semen into the vagina.
Accessory reproductive glands: These are found at the neck of the urinary bladder.
They include the cowper’s gland, prostate gland and seminal vesicles.
