Agriculture for Secondary Schools
Activity 1.5
In groups, perform the following tasks:
1. List the perennial crops found or which can be grown in your area and discuss
their importance while considering the products of each of the crops and their
uses. You may visit a school or nearby farm to identify various perennial crops
raised by farmers.
2. Find out the available entrepreneurial opportunities that you can utilise for
generating profitable income from value chain of each of the crops. Compare
the utilisation of each of the crops in your area with other places in and outside
Tanzania.
3. Summarise your responses including the lessons you have learnt in your
portfolio and present them in class.
4. Plan and implement to raise, care for or utilise the perennial crop of your choice.
Record all your work proceedings in your portfolio and make reflections as well
as assessment of what you have learnt as you continue performing the tasks.
Activity 1.6
Write a summary of what you have learnt from this chapter in your portfolio.
Exercise
Answer the following questions:
1. What are the major things you need to consider in planning for producing a crop
of your choice?
2. What are the major principles you have to adhere to in producing profitably any
crop of your choice?
3. How can you obtain markets of crop produce and products of your choice?
