In many African countries, access to education has improved in recent years.

According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation
(UNESCO), more children are enrolling in schools than ever. In 2022, over 80%
of children in Africa attended primary school. There is arguably a significant
achievement, but challenges remain. One of the major obstacles is the lack of teachers

in rural areas. Many schools are also poorly equipped with learning materials such
as books and computers. These problems make it difficult for students to receive
quality education, and in some places, schools struggle to maintain their operations.

For instance, students often have to share textbooks in certain regions, and many
           classrooms are overcrowded.

Some people argue that education should be free for all children, regardless of their
background or available resources. This opinion is based on the belief that education
is a fundamental human right. It is thought that no child should be denied an education
simply because their family cannot afford it. Some argue that governments must
invest more money in education to ensure every child has the opportunity to learn.

While some people agree, others believe that providing free education for all might
not be sustainable in the long run. They suggest that governments might struggle to
provide quality education to all students if it is entirely free.

The African Union, a union of 55 African countries, has set an ambitious goal
to ensure that all African children complete at least nine years of education by

2030. This goal is part of a more significant effort to improve education across the
continent. The African Union believes that education is the key to a bright future
for Africa. They also state that improving education will reduce poverty, increase
employment opportunities, and contribute to the continent’s development. However,
some experts argue that while education is crucial, it is not enough. They believe

it must be supported by better healthcare, access to clean water, and economic
opportunities for students’ families to make the most impact.
