                                            Being an adolescent

Adolescence is a time of growth and self-discovery. During this stage, teenagers
experience physical, emotional and mental changes that shape their identity.
They begin to develop independence, form new friendships, and make important
life choices. However, this period can also be challenging as adolescents face

peer pressure, academic responsibilities and personal struggles. It is during this
time that many seek guidance from parents, teachers, and friends to navigate
these changes and make informed decisions.

Despite the difficulties, adolescence is an exciting phase filled with opportunities
for learning and self-improvement. Teenagers explore their interests, set goals

for the future, and build confidence in their abilities. They also learn to handle
responsibilities and develop problem-solving skills. By embracing these
experiences, adolescents prepare themselves for adulthood and the challenges
                  that come with it.

              (c) Read the story “The missing necklace” and do the task that follows.

Tumpe lived in Isoso Village with her grandmother. One evening, after returning
from school, she realised that her grandmother’s favourite necklace was missing.
The necklace, a gift from Tumpe’s mother, who lived in the city, was a unique
piece. Tumpe searched every corner of the house but could not find it. Worried,
she asked her neighbours if they had seen anything unusual. A young boy

mentioned that he had seen a shiny object near the garden. Tumpe rushed outside
and, after a few minutes of searching, found the necklace tangled in the glass.
She felt relieved and quickly returned it to her grandmother, who was overjoyed.

The incident taught Tumpe an important lesson. From that day, she became
more careful with valuable things. She made a small box for keeping special
items safe. Her grandmother praised her for being responsible and thoughtful.
