General Introduction
This Teacher’s Guide is a tool for implementing the changes in how
English is taught using the Communicative Language Teaching
FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
Approach. This approach focuses on real communication and helps
students speak English better. The book will guide you through using
this approach. It serves as a roadmap for making English classes more
interactive and fun. The book comprises the following important
aspects.
Using ICT to teach English
In simple terms, using technology in teaching makes English learning
easier, and more exciting, helping the students become better English
users. Using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in
teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) is important for several
reasons:
(a) Engagement: ICT makes learning fun and interesting.
Students enjoy using computers, tablets, and other devices
which keep them actively engaged in lessons.
(b) Visual learning: ICT can show pictures, videos, and
interactive activities that help students understand English
words and concepts better. You are advised to prepare audio
and audio-visual texts by searching through the internet or
recording and displaying them to the class to strengthen your
lessons.
(c) Practise anytime: Students can practise English outside the
classroom on computers or apps, helping them to improve
their English.
(d) Individualised learning: ICT allows teachers to create lessons
tailored to each student’s level, so everyone can learn at their
own pace.
(e) Access to resources: With ICT, students can access a wealth
of online resources, like language apps and websites, to
enhance their learning.
