            Activity 3.4      Describing events, objects, and situations using

                            appropriate tenses

          Use the activities in the Student’s Book to guide the students through:
         FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
            (a) Reading  the  story  My  Favourite  Hobby.  Then  ask  them  to
               identify the verbs and tense used; comment on the correctness of
               grammar and tenses used; and use appropriate tense to describe
               their hobbies. Finally, ask them to share their descriptions in
               the class and ask other students to comment on them. Provide
               clarification when the need arises.

            (b) Studying the school surroundings and its neighbouring areas.
               Then, ask them to list what they see in the school’s surroundings
               and its neighbouring areas; consult their peers or other teachers
               and workers in the school to collect information on the school’s
               progress.; use the information they have collected and the school
               surroundings to plan a description of the school to write the
               first draft describing the school; present and discuss the draft
               and comment on the vocabulary and tense used to describe the
               school; present their drafts to the class, incorporate suggestions;
               and write the final draft after the class discussion. Then check
               their final work and comment appropriately.

            (c) Studying  the diagrammatic presentation  of English tenses.
               Provide them with an opportunity to explain what they  know
               about tenses. Then, ask them to provide one example for each
               tense in the diagram to test their understanding. Use the ‘Did
               you know’ section and other resources to teach the students
               tenses.

            (d) Studying the example sentences of tenses in the form of positive
               and negative sentences and the form of questions to enhance
               their understanding. You may use this as an opportunity for them
               to clear any misunderstandings on tenses. Ask them to practise
               appropriate use of tenses in meaningful contexts using all forms:
