(d) Reading the conversation between Juma and Roza and
demonstrating how antonyms are used. Ask the students to
identify the antonyms in the conversation. Lead a discussion
to get the students’ thoughts on their usage. Then, use the ‘Did
you know?’ section and other resources to teach the students
antonyms. Provide other classroom situations where students
will sharpen their skills in antonym usage.
Activity 3.3 Describing events, objects and situations using
appropriate subject-verb agreement
Use the activities in the Student’s Book to guide the students through:
(a) Reading closely the description of Dodoma, the capital city of
Tanzania. Ask them to pay attention to the italicised nouns and
pronouns, and the bolded verbs. Then ask the students to write
all the sentences with verbs in bold, and discuss how the subject
agrees with its verb in each sentence and the rule that applies
to each sentence regarding subject-verb agreement. Then, with
the help of the ‘Did you know?’ section and other resources
teach the students the concept of subject-verb agreement.
