(b) Studying the sentences in Activity 3.3 (b). Ask them to pay
attention to the nouns or pronouns in italics as they agree
with their verbs in bold. Lead a class discussion on how the
subject agrees with its verb in each sentence. You may use the

following sentences to guide the discussion. Ask the students
to study the provided sentences and tell whether the verbs in
these sentences agree with their subjects.
1. The list of items were scattered all over the floor.
2. The bouquet of flowers smell amazing.
3. Neither the teacher nor the students was ready for the
exam.
4. Each of the participants have completed the survey.
5. The pack of wolves were howling at the moon.
(c) Editing the sentences in Activity 3.3(c) to address problems
with subject-verb agreement and writing the edited sentence.
Ask them to write “correct” if the sentence is correct. Check
the correctness of their sentences. Then use the ‘Did you know’
section to teach the students the specific rules that govern
subject-verb agreement in sentences. The suggested answers
to Activity 3.2(c) are as follows.
1. One of the main reasons for elephant poaching is the
profits received from selling the ivory tusks.
2. Correct.
3. Batik cloth from the DRC, blue and white ceramics
from China, and a colourful ball from Spain have made
