Activity 7.1 Comparing a variety of complex oral texts from different
contexts using prosodic features and grammar
(a) Study the following three texts and respond to the questions after each text.

Esteemed members of the community, good afternoon! I stand before you today to
advocate a cause that is beyond our interests. Our home, our district, and part of the
planet are currently facing unsurmountable challenges due to increased human activities,
such as deforestation and pollution. These actions have long-term devastating effects
on future generations. Nonetheless, it is not all sad and tragic. We can all agree that
through working together and adopting sustainable practices, we can safeguard our
environment for ourselves and future generations. Let’s set out on a path of care and
stewardship together to protect our planet’s diversity and beauty for future generations.
