             Activity7.2 Writing an investigative report
          (a) Identify any burning academic or disciplinary issue that needs a thorough
              investigation.
                 1. Plan your investigation by identifying the purpose and the cause of the
                    investigation.
                 2. Identify who will be the source of data
                 3. Explain why you think they will be helpful.
                 4. Describe the data you are expecting to collect from your source.
                 5. Explain methods you will employ to collect the data from them.

           DID YOU ?
              KNOW

An investigative report is normally a follow-up to an issue that needs clarification
or resolution. The report should be self-explanatory, detailed, straight forward
and able to provide a solution to the investigated issue. It is expected to answer
the “who what, where, why, how and, therefore, what next” questions from the
investigation. Therefore, your investigative report needs to specify the purpose of
the investigation; the cause of the investigation; the methods of data collection,
processing and analysis; the findings and their interpretation; and the conclusion
            and recommendations.

Your report should contain preliminary pages which contain the title of the report,
names of the committee members, their positions and specialisations, and the
summary of the investigation. The purpose and cause of the investigation are
captured in the summary. The next section of the report includes methods of data
collection, findings, conclusion(s) and recommendation(s). The report should be
organised in terms of its sentences and paragraphs of reasonable length which
cannot affect comprehension. The language used is formal to enable everyone to
read and understand despite their diverse disciplines.

          (b) Considering Activity 7.2(a), conduct an investigation on the topic you have
selected and write a 3−page report. Then, share it with the class for discussion
and comments for its improvement. Work on the comments made and submit the
work to the teacher for feedback.
