KNOW
Different types of writing vary across disciplines depending on the message to be
communicated and the purpose of its communication. In certain contexts, writing
becomes fact-based and cuts across different disciplines, while in others, it is
opinion-based. You are likely to be exposed to writing, and possibly you have
written many different works.
Your experience and response to the questions above might have triggered the
need to ascertain whether your writing is academic or not. You may also need to
find out what can be improved to make your writing more academic. The following
activity will help you to clear your doubts by distinguishing academic writing
from other types of writing.
