Alex: We also have prose non-fiction. They contain factual elements in their
narration but they can also include some elements of fiction. For
example, a biography or autobiography both primarily give an account
                        of a person’s life.
Sam: True. There are also essays, news, articles, memoirs and letters, serious
but thrilling with clear and coherent structure, clear and concise

Semeni: Whether it’s poetry, drama, prose fiction or prose non-fiction they all
have unique charm and appeal. That is what makes literature so diverse
                        and fascinating.
[The bell rings, signaling the end of lunch break.]

Sam: Well, looks like we’ll have to continue this discussion later. But seriously,
I could talk about literary works all day.

Alex: Me too. See you guys after school!
Semeni: Yeah, whether it’s fantasy, mystery, or classics, each genre has its unique
charm and appeal. It’s what makes literature so diverse and fascinating.
Definitely. Can’t wait to dive back into our literary debate.

              KNOW

Literature has various genres, each distinguished by its unique features, stylistic
elements and thematic concerns. From the dynamic dialogue-driven storytelling
of drama or play, the condensed language and evocative imagery of poetry to
the immersive narratives of prose fiction and prose non-fiction. Each genre offers
readers and writers distinct modes of expression and exploration. Non-fiction
literature deals with real-world subjects and events, presenting factual information
and perspectives, while fantasy and science fiction transport readers to imaginary
realms filled with magic, technology and speculative futures. Understanding
the distinctive features of these genres is essential in order to navigate the vast
landscape of literature, as it enables readers to appreciate the meanings of different
literary forms, delve into diverse storytelling traditions, and develop a deeper
understanding of the human experience across cultures.
