Twelve Analysing and appreciating literary genres

Introduction

Analysing the conventions of each genre enables one to develop critical thinking
abilities and become skilled at recognising literary devices and structures. In this
chapter, you will learn to explain the distinctive features of different genres of
literature, apply the theories of literature in critiquing literary work and expressing
a personal point of view after reading a literary work. Exploration of these genres
will enhance your ability to comprehend and interpret texts, thereby improving
