Academic Communication for Advanced Secondary Schools Introduction
F Project work method
Using project work can be an extremely successful way to engage
students, stimulate critical thinking, and promote a deeper understanding
of the subject. You may observe the following steps for a project work:
FOR ONLINE READING ONLY
i. Identify learning objectives for the project which are consistent
with the curriculum and educational standards.
ii. Choose a topic that aligns with the objectives of the project and
the curriculum. Consider themes that provide transdisciplinary
connections or real-world applications.
iii. Define the scope of the project, including specific requirements,
limits and timeframes. Give the students clear rules and
expectations for what they need to do.
iv. Assign students to work individually or in groups based on the
project requirements. Encourage collaboration by assigning roles
within the group to ensure that everyone contributes.
v. Give the students access to relevant resources such as textbooks,
papers, websites and experienced guest speakers. Encourage
independent investigation and exploration to improve
understanding.
vi. Facilitate planning by asking the students to brainstorm ideas,
create project plans, and set realistic targets. Encourage creative
and critical thinking.
vii. Regularly check in with students to assess their progress and
provide support.
viii. Provide opportunities for students to reflect on their learning
throughout the project by encouraging them to assess their
development, identify lessons learned, and think about how they
can improve in the future.
ix. Promote presentation skills by scheduling time for students to
prepare and deliver project presentations or demonstrations. This
improves communication skills and allows students to present
their work to classmates and professors.
