Stressed words within sentences
Teaching and learning procedures
1. Guide students through brainstorming the concept of a sentence.
2. Discuss with them how to identify stressed and unstressed words
and sentences. You should also guide them through discussing how
effective use of stress in words and sentences help covey meaning
more accurately and naturally in English.
3. Write on a board a sample of sentences with stressed and unstressed
words and guide students through reading with correct rise and fall
of voice.
4. Guide them through making more practices with sentences you
provide to them.
5. Ask the students to sit in pairs to discuss and write the sentences
and indicate stressed words. They should read their sentences while
assigning stress on words.
Activity 1�10 in the Student’s Book
(a) Instruct students in groups to do the activity as follow:
i. Using the words given in their text book to construct
sentences
ii. Presenting their sentences orally and putting stress
appropriately on the given words.
iii. Following their presentations and provide clarification and
correct where necessary.
