give clarification and correct their pronunciation.

Common pronunciation challenges in English
Teaching and learning procedures
1. Guide students through brainstorming the challenges one faces when
pronouncing English words. Encourage them to draw examples
from their own experiences.
2. Discuss with them how the common challenges result from English
vowels and consonants sounds. The discussion should consider
factors like vowel variations in English vowels, different qualities
of English vowels, consonant sound variation between English and
other languages.
Literal meaning
Teaching and learning procedures
1. Discuss with students what literal meaning is. Encourage them to
differentiate literal meaning from expressive meaning.
2. Introduce students to the use of a dictionary in getting literal meaning
and draw some examples from online/offline dictionaries.

(a) Organise students in groups and instruct them to do the
following:
i. Contemplate the terms given in the Student’s Book. They
should not look up their meanings in a dictionary.
