The concept of sin
Sin in Hebrew is ‘khata’ means fall or miss a target. According to the Bible sin is an
intentional transgression against God’s command or order. It can be a thought, word or
deed that destroy our relationship with God and neighbour.
Sin as violation of God’s rule and moral order, results from the fall of man, lack of
knowledge of God, deficiency of trust in God’s providence and disobedience to God.
Furthermore, sin originates from dissatisfaction, temptation by the devil, selfishness
and human wicked ambitions.
Activity 3.3
Use library and internet sources to explain the causes of sin.
Implications of sin
Sin has many consequences including alienation of human beings from God i.e. deprivation
of God’ grace. It also brings broken relationship between God and creation. Furthermore,
sin brings pain and suffering to human beings. Consequently, it causes physical and
spiritual death. Besides, sin increases enmity, exploitation, and inequality. In addition,
sin brings curse upon the land and it is a source of family conflicts and breaking of
marriage.

i. What do you understand by the term Original Sin?
ii. Explain five effects of sin in your life.
iii. Explain five causes of sin in your society.
Cain and Abel
The story of Cain and Abel is one of the most well-known tales in the Bible. It is a
powerful narrative that teaches us profound lessons about faith, obedience, sacrifice
and consequences of our actions. As we navigate through this ancient story we will
