Cain and Abel were involved in murder. This happened when Cain and Abel brought
their offerings to the Lord. Cain brought an offering of fruit of the ground, and Abel
brought to the Lord an offering of firstling of his flock and their fat portions. Abel
was a generous shepherd, he offered with love, devotion and faith. Conversely, Cain
was a miserly farmer. He brought simple fruit of the ground. The Lord accepted
Abel’s offerings, and rejected Cain’s offerings. The Lord understood the intentions of
their hearts. Figure 3.5 depicts to the offering of Cain and Abel, and God acceptance
Abel’s sacrifice.
Figure 3.5: God’s acceptance of Abel’s offering
Cain was angry and his countenance fell. He became jealous of Abel. And the Lord
asked Cain, why are you angry, and why has your countenance fallen? If you do well,
will you not be accepted? and if you do not do well, sin is couching at the door; its
desire is for you, but you must master it (Genesis 4:6-7). Cain said to his brother,
Abel, “Let us go out to the field” and there Cain killed his brother Abel. Figure 3.6
depicts to Cain killing his brother Abel.
