Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful. When the officials of
Pharaoh saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh so she was taken to Pharaoh’s house.
Moreover, Abraham was given sheep, oxen, male and female slaves, female donkeys
and camels. But the Lord afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because
of Sarai, the wife of Abram. Pharaoh blamed Abraham for not telling him that Sarai

Abraham and Lot separate
Abraham and Lot conflict was an event in the book of Genesis that depicts the separation
between Abraham and Lot; as a result of the conflict between their herdsmen. The
conflict ends in a peaceful way in which Abraham concedes part of his Promised
Land in order to resolve the conflict peacefully. “So Abram went up from Egypt, he
and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negeb.
“Now Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. And he journeyed on
from the Negeb as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning,
between Bethel and Ai, to the place where he had made an altar at the first; and there
Abram called on the name of the LORD. And Lot, who went with Abram, also had
flocks and herds and tents, so that the land could not support both of them dwelling
together; for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together, and
there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdsmen of Lot’s
cattle. At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites dwelt in the land. Then, Abram
said to Lot, “Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herdsmen
and my herdsmen; for we are kinsmen. Is not the whole land before you? Separate
yourself from me. If you take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if you take
the right hand, then I will go to the left.” And Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw that the
Jordan valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the LORD, like the
land of Egypt, in the direction of Zohar; this was before the LORD destroyed Sodom
and Gomorrah. So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan valley, and Lot journeyed east;
thus they separated from each other” (Genesis 13:1-11).
Here Abraham’s language is clear, firm and polite. Lot accepts the peace deal, for
the Partition of the Land, and chose the area of the plain of the Jordan - in the area
including Sodom, and the story ends with Abraham and Lot separately settling in
different areas of the Land.
The conflict between the herdsmen of Abraham and Lot may teach us the danger
of wealth if not properly mastered. Also, the conflicts between the herdsmen of
