By practising and performing musical pieces through singing or playing
musical instruments, one can improve memorisation skills.
              (b) Development of critical and creative thinking: Students who practise singing
or playing musical instruments often develop critical thinking ability and
creativity. Critical and creative thinking help students to solve problems
by thinking beyond boundaries. Also, reading music can help students to
achieve better mathematical skills as they count notes and rhythms.
              (c) Promoting self-discipline: Musical skills grow when a musician is willing

to practise. A musician has to set enough time for practices in order to
master playing a musical instrument or singing well. While practising, one
can learn a valuable lesson about self-discipline and time management.
              (d) Encouraging teamwork: Teamwork is an essential skill in life. Musicians
involved in a choir, band or orchestras cooperate with their fellow musicians
in making music. Each singer or instrument player listens to each other and
then they sing or play together. This makes musicians work together and
                   build solidarity.
              (e) Development of language and reasoning in students: Music helps to
strengthen the left side of the brain which is involved in reading, analysing
information and understanding languages. Students who have music
training develop the left side of the brain and quickly develop reading and
                   reasoning skills.
              (f) Building self-confidence: Performing anything in front of an audience can
sometimes be a frightening experience. However, people who play musical
instruments or sing in bands, choirs or orchestras get the opportunity to
perform in front of audiences many times. Therefore, they build up self-

confidence to speak and perform in front of audiences.

Relationship between Music and other fields of study

              Theatre Arts
Theatre Arts involves performing arts such as dances, storytelling, theatrical
rituals, recitations and drama which are performed before an audience. There is a
great relationship between Music and Theatre Arts. Through performances, both
fields contribute to each other in delivering messages to the intended audience.
In theatre performances, music is used to illustrate or build actions and reveal
the inner emotions of a character. It also creates and informs the audience on
the mood of the scene that is about to happen on the stage. On the other hand,
musicians tend to include a variety of dance styles in their performances. They
