simple rhythms using five notes of different values and their specific rest signs.
These notes are semibreve, minim, crotchet, quaver and semiquaver. Table 2.1
shows the name, shape and value for each musical note and rest.

Parts of a musical note
Musical notes are made up of different parts, which are note head, stem and flag.
Every note has a head. A head is the round part of a note with an oval shape. A
note stem is the vertical line attached to the note head that can either point upward
or downward. A note flag is the little line that appears off the top or bottom of the
note stem. Quavers, semiquavers and other smaller notes have flags. Crotchets
and minims have stems but they have no flags. Semibreves have neither stems nor
flags. Figure 2.1 shows different parts of musical notes.
