One!
                                                    Ta!
                                                   Clap!

              (b) A quaver: Quavers have flags. Notes with flags can be connected to each other
                  with a line called beam. This makes a written piece of music look neat and
                  easy to read. Figure 2.4 shows how quavers can be written while connected
                  by a beam line.
                                                                 beam

                                     ÈÈ             =         n

                                 ÈÈÈÈ               =      Y

                               Figure 2.4: Quavers connected by a beam line

                   When counting quavers, you should keep in mind that the value of one
                   quaver is half that of a crotchet. Therefore, one quaver plus another quaver
                   is equal to one crotchet. Figure 2.5 shows how to count two quavers aloud

                   while clapping. The first quaver is represented by the sounds “One!” and
                   “Ta!”. The sounds “and!” and “te!” have been used to represent the second
                   quaver.

                                               One!- and!
                                                Ta!  -  te!
                                               Clap! - clap!
