Relationship between notes
Musical notes relate to each other based on their values. For example, you can find
that, in one semibreve, there are two minims or four crotchets. Figure 2.2 shows
how musical notes relate to each other.

Recognising time values of notes
At this level, you will learn to count number of beats in different notes whereby
the value of one beat is regarded as a crotchet. There are different ways that can
be used to count beats in different notes. In this section, you will use numbers
(one-two-three-four) or syllables (ta-te) while clapping. Note that, when counting,
you can use either numbers or syllables at a time, while clapping. The following
are individual notes of different values counted while written separately:
(a) A crotchet: Each crotchet has the value of one beat. Therefore, the beat can
be counted as One! or Ta!. Figure 2.3 shows how to count one crotchet aloud
while clapping.
