Principles and practices of dairy cattle production

Dairy production is governed by the key principles which guide the planning,
caring and day-to-day management of the cattle. These principles help to
improve milk yields, animal health and income, and thus profitability. Successful
dairy production is based on selection of a good site, construction of suitable
accommodation, provision of adequate feed and maintenance of health. Other
tasks include management of breeding, milk production and processing, and
marketing. Learning these techniques will help to build a strong dairy business
that promotes both food security and livelihoods.
