              Exercise 9.2

              1. A small group of youth in Mtwara wants to start a dairy project. They have
a piece of land, water sources, and one permanent building. But they live far
from town and lack transport. What should they include in their business plan
                  to resolve transport issues?
              2. Fatuma wants to start a dairy unit near her home. She has capital and access
to good feed sources but owns a small plot of land. She also lives near a busy
marketplace. What dairy-keeping system should she adopt? What products
could she produce and sell for extra income?

              3. A student from a rural school wants to help her parents improve the family
dairy business. She has experienced that the cattle often fall sick, and the milk
yield is low. There is no plan in place, and record-keeping is not conducted.

                 (a) Suggest at least three important areas of improvement or changes.

                 (b) Outline important steps the student should follow to develop a plan for
                      her parents’ dairy cattle enterprise.

               The housing for dairy cattle
Proper housing promotes animal health, milk production, and ease of routine
management. It protects cattle from extreme heat, rain, wind, cold and theft.
Housing also helps to reduce diseases and injuries and ensures a sanitary
