Organising related ideas into paragraphs improves a reader’s comprehension.
Visual representations such as text mapping, mind maps, charts, tables, graphs,
and diagrams can also effectively convey information. Additional organisational

hierarchy), and arranging content in chronological or spatial order, by order of
importance, through comparison and contrast, or by progressing from simple to
complex concepts.

Activity 2 Compiling information
Read the following passage carefully. Identify key facts about trees, deforestation
and the ways to protect forests.
Effects of cutting down trees
Forests are important for people, animals and
the environment at large. In forests, there
are different varieties of trees. Trees provide
oxygen, which we need to breathe. They also
give shade, food, and shelter to most animals
and birds. People use wood from trees to
build houses, make paper, and make fire to
cook food, while other parts of trees, such as
sap and bark, are used for different purposes.
However, cutting down too many trees, also
called deforestation, causes serious problems.
